Garden of Remembrance
Maintenance Works - Spring 2025 – Update 1
Last year, the Church Council of St Mary’s, Bocking sought the necessary permissions to extend the Garden of Remembrance, this is the area of the churchyard in which ashes can be interred. Approval was granted in the late Summer and works have now begun and will continue through the Spring.
As part of the extension, we felt it vital to replace the current overgrown and unsightly hedging that surrounds the present area. New hedging will be put in place that will bring both the old section and the new area together as one.
Work has begun on removing the old hedging which will been done carefully and considerately. It has not been necessary to disturb any ashes and indeed no further problems have arisen. It has though changed the look of the area.
In the Spring, those who visit will see further changes as the new boundary is marked out, and the hedging planted. Again, this will all be done appropriately and thoughtfully. Further updates will be issued along the way.
Once the work is completed, it will mean that for those who wish to have their ashes interred in the churchyard this will be possible for years to come.
